On 14 March we received a delegation from the Economic Committee of the Regional Parliament of Schleswig-Holstein, the Mayor of Lübeck Bernd Saxe as well as representatives of the port sector of Schleswig-Holstein at our office in St. Petersburg, opened just a few weeks ago.
The delegation was welcomed by Managing Director of LHG, Sebastian Jürgens, ECL’s Managing Director Jörg Ullrich and Dmytro Grybkov, the General Manager of OOO ECL Rus. The talks focused on economic matters and cooperation.
“Initial experience has shown that our decision to establish a presence in St. Petersburg, even in difficult times, was the correct one”, said Grybkov as he gave an account of the first successes. In addition to increased imports of timber and regular consignments of paper, also linked to an increasing extent with the intermodal rail services offered by ECL, it has also been possible to acquire initial transport consignments of steel from Russia to Germany. Shipping from St. Petersburg is done on special roll trailers that can carry weights of up to 120 tons. The goods are stored temporarily in Lübeck, moved to trucks and then delivered to the German importers and end-customers by ECL.
“The big advantage of this transport system is that consignors can also ship smaller quantities quickly without having to accumulate their production volumes for a complete shipload”, explains Ullrich, adding that all of the infrastructures exist in Lübeck for the transhipment and storage of steel.
