Rhein-Neckar Shuttle now operating 5 departures per week from Lübeck

From calendar week 21, we will be offering two additional departures per week in each direction on our intermodal link between Lübeck-Travemünde and Ludwigshafen. The schedule has also been optimised.

The “Rhein-Neckar Shuttle”, now well established on the market, was launched last year with three departures per week in each direction. The reason for increasing the frequency is the continuing high demand on this route. Cooperation with the terminals Baltic Rail Gate at the Skandinavienkai in Lübeck-Travemünde and the Ludwigshafen (KTL) Intermodal Terminal has now enabled us to adapt the schedule even more ideally to the needs of the market.

As ECL Managing Director Jörg Ullrich comments: “With the increase in the number of weekly departures, we are providing our customers on this route with an ideal opportunity to transport their cargo on a daily basis in an environmentally friendly way, without any traffic jams and without any restrictions by taking advantage of driving times and rest periods away from the highways”.

The Rhein-Neckar Shuttle takes around 12 hours between Ludwigshafen and Lübeck. This means the journey times to and from Sweden, including the ferry link across the Port of Lübeck, are around 30 hours, and approximately 60 hours for transport to or from southern Finland. For example, cargo arriving at the port in Finland by Friday afternoon can be collected in Ludwigshafen as early as 6 a.m. Monday morning.

As Tobias Behncke, Intermodal Services Manager at ECL, explains: “Ludwigshafen is attractive not only because of the large number of industrial operations, such as automobile and chemical companies. In addition, this location is linked to a well-developed road network. Numerous gateway connections are also available by rail, e.g. to France, Spain, Italy, Austria and Hungary.

ECL has been active in the intermodal transport segment for many years now, currently offering four direct rail links together with its business partners, i.e. the Rhein-Neckar Shuttle, Verona Shuttle, Ruhr Shuttle and Bettembourg Shuttle. ECL also specialises in pan-European paper distribution as well as handling European forwarding services in the full, part and project cargo segments. ECL is a 100%-owned subsidiary of the company Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft mbH (LHG).
