ECL reactivates "Ruhr Shuttle" intermodal link

The rail transport company TX Logistik AG (TXL) and ECL have pooled their activities on the Sweden-Ruhr Region axis.

For this purpose, TXL has shifted its connection Herne-Malmö v.v. - which was previously routed via Denmark - to Lübeck and combines it with corresponding ferry connections to the southern Swedish ports of Malmö and Trelleborg. In addition, further consolidation functions resulting by the connections with other partner ports of Lübeck, e.g. Helsinki, Kotka and Hanko in Finland as well as St. Petersburg in Russia or Liepaja in Latvia. The new intermodal link Lübeck-Herne v.v. is named "Ruhr Shuttle" and has already been launched on 8 May 2017 and is running successfully since the first day.

With this joint project, we have responded to our customers’ increased demand for a high-frequency link on this axis and can once again offer a direct intermodal connection between the Ruhr region and Lübeck.

The new service links the economic centres of Sweden, Finland, Russia and the Baltic States on the one hand, as well as the Ruhr region, Netherlands, Belgium and France on the other hand. A variety of connections to Italy are also available from Herne.

The intermodal service is jointly marketed by TXL and ECL. On production side TXL is responsible for the operation, and ECL providing support in Lübeck for all ferry bookings & processes.

This integrated train/ferry service enables us to offer our customers the possibility to book “one-stop-shop” to/from Southern Sweden as well as Finland, Russia and the Baltic States for an all-in price.
