New paper handling system at the Nordlandkai Lubeck
On Sunday 7th January 2007 a brand new paper handling system for forest products, developed in close cooperation between the companies Stora Enso, The Port of Luebeck and ECL mbH was introduced and started operations.
The special characteristic of the new system is the SECU-Box (Stora Enso cargo units). The Secu-Box is a multimodal unit employed for transport via rail and sea.
The boxes are specially developed for the transport of paper goods, and with a length of 13.6 meters and a width of 3,30 meters, are significantly larger than standard containers and 85 tons of paper can be loaded.
The Port of Luebeck has invested around 5 million Euros for docking stations dedicated for the unloading of the boxes.
The paper concern Stora Enso have commissioned and authorized ECL to carry out the entire disposition for ongoing transport in Germany and abroad.
